Comcast Supports Preschool for Homeless Children
Ann Murphy and Pat Hannan join friends at the Florence N. Davis Center for Women and Children JACKSONVILLE, Fl., July 21, 2010– For the third year in a row, The Comcast Foundation has renewed its grant for Community Connections of Jacksonville. In 2009, Ann Murphy, Director of Government Affairs, presented a check to Community Connections at a ceremony held at the Florence N. Davis Center. This three-year grant has and will continue to provide scholarships for homeless children to attend the agency’s daycare, located in downtown Jacksonville. The Comcast Foundation was established in 1999; since that time, it has given more than $30 million to the highest-quality nonprofit organizations in Comcast communities nationwide. The Comcast Foundation focuses mostly on literacy, volunteerism, and youth leadership programs. Local management teams assist the foundation in zeroing in on deserving local agencies. Community Connections of Jacksonville, a 501 (c) 3, provides housing for the homeless, child care, parenting classes, after school and summer camp programs, mentoring and GED prep classes among other services for women, children and families. Founded in 1911, it was of the oldest social service agencies in Jacksonville. For additional information, visit www.communityconnectionsjax.org .
